So today I had my first appointment at the OB's office. It's funny how it just seems like "yesterday" that I was trekking there on a regular basis... (hmm... guess it really was)! Well, I realized quickly that this time around things will be very different. I have a shadow now. She weighs about 20 pounds, recently became a crawling-up-to-no-good little genius, and somehow thinks she was born to be attached to my hip at all costs. My little shadow accompanied me to my appointment today... and it was quite the adventure. All in all I have to hand it to our little trooper. She was very well behaved considering how sleep deprived she was - and how full her little tummy must have been after I shoved 5 cups of cheerios in her mouth to keep her quiet during the first 30 minutes we waited to get in... and then the first 15 of my chatting with the Practitioner. She lost it a little bit while the NNP attempted to locate a heartbeat on our little alien. (I am not far enough along for one to be audible... at least that's what we are hoping!)... but calmed down with the speciman cup I found for her to play with. (OK... I'm kidding - relax Mom!)
The best part came when we were sent down the hall for lab work. My poor child bounced, wiggled, and tugged all over my lap for another 45 minutes as we waited for my name to be called, and once it was, my greatest test of true motherhood began. I am proud to announce that not only did I hold my lovely daughter with one arm on one side of my body while the phlebotomist poked twice (not once), and sucked 6 tubes of blood out of my arm... but I somehow managed to balance her on that same side - PEE in a CUP and submit a urine specimen (only slightly contaminated by the lid she tried to place in her mouth)!!!!!!!!
Let's hear it people!! I want some props!!! (And the name of a babysitter if you have one!)

Drawing on my fine command of the language....I choose to say nothing at all.
Ella, you can come and live with Grandma anytime!!
Those must be mother skills! I don't think I could have done it. Good work :)
I have a hard enough time hitting the center of the toilet when I'm a little tired in the morning... not sure how you puled that one off. Good job babe.
Oh, the true joys of motherhood!
We can do just about anything with a child attached to our hip. Ask a dad to do the same-they look at us like we are asking them to give birth!
oh my gosh, next time drop her off at my place!!:)
but props to you!!
Or you can call Grandma Joyce. I don't know how you do the things you do!!!Eric found a wonder-woman.
Meg, good job! I left Aidan at home for my first appointment...but that was because I knew I'd be getting a pelvic exam too, not something a 2 1/2 year old needs to see. Good luck as things progress! :)
You certainly are wonder woman Meg!!! I'm super impressed but so sad that you had to go through that craziness!!! I'm so serious, I'm watching Ella from now on!!!!!!!
I know you've got pleanty of offers, but I'm in your 'hood and home most of the time except Wednesday mornings (jake has a music class) feel free to drop her off!
Meghan, I only hope I am as talented as you are when I have Grace lol. You are amazing... ;)
